«HOW CAN A HEART BE BRACED IN WORDS? ANOTHER FATHOM WHAT IS YOURS?»
Abstract
In the article the author defines the main task of teaching Russian as a foreign language. It consists not only in teaching grammar and lexis to foreign students but also in the development of background knowledge for understanding the Russian culture. Considering the issue of nationally-oriented teaching of Russian to foreign students and peculiarities of training foreigners in international groups, the author points out the significance of selecting educational material, choosing optimal methods of its presentation and effective ways of working with complex phenomena of the Russian grammar, as well as foreseeing common errors in students’ speech. Teachers analyze teaching techniques in groups of European and Asian students taking into account their national peculiarities, share their experience in teaching phonetics, grammar, reading and listening with foreign students. Characterizing students from the Asian-Pacific region, Arab countries, Europe and America, the author points out which teaching style is most suitable for each particular group of students, and describes their attitude to various tasks given in the classroom. In this regard it is recommended to take into account peculiarities of students’ native language. This approach makes it possible to work out the right method of work in each particular group and to develop abilities of all students. The author also mentions that carrying out extracurricular activities attended by students from different countries contributes to their development and education as well. The Russian language is the only means of communication in the international groups of students, which makes them take its learning more seriously and try to put knowledge into practice. Working with representatives of different cultures on a day-to-day basis students broaden their world outlook, display interest to customs and traditions of different countries, comparing them with their own. This makes students more tolerant to foreign cultures and facilitates the process of joining cultural atmosphere of our country.
