On May 20, 2026, the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the international scientific conference The United States, Russia, and the World: 250 Years of Interaction, organized jointly with the Association for the Advancement of Academic Science and Education "Institute for Advanced Historical Research" with the support of PJSC “Transneft”. Conference participants discussed the 250-year history of interaction between the United States, Russia, and the world from a scholarly perspective, highlighting how mutual perceptions, historiographical approaches, and the international context of Russian-American relations have evolved. Leading researchers from Russia, the United States, China, France, and Belarus, representatives of academic institutions, universities, and the expert community specializing in the history of international relations, American studies, Russian studies, and global history, delivered presentations at the conference. A wide range of topics was proposed for discussion, including:
Following the conference, participants noted the importance of academic dialogue and the need for further study of the history of Russian-American relations within a broad international context. Particular attention was paid to the role of historical science in maintaining professional contacts, training young researchers, and developing American studies in Russia. Participants emphasized that drawing on the experience of the past allows for a more accurate understanding of the contemporary international agenda and enables the examination of complex issues of state interaction beyond the framework of the current political situation. |
